Recently I’ve been engrossed in a lot of social media, audiobooks, articles, and blogs because I’m always asking myself, “Trinitia, what IS the meaning of life?” It inevitably takes me back to a reflective thought-journey about my goals and dreams. I think purpose is a quest that unites us all. So today, for a moment, I’d like to share with you my thoughts on the journey of self-discovery and inspiration. Let’s walk down this path that will unveil some hidden gems within ourselves and reveal the extraordinary purpose that may be hidden within us.
Embracing Your Uniqueness
In this earth that is populated with billions of souls, it’s easy to feel insignificant. That’s even truer if you find yourself living in a large Metropolitan area (like Chicago for example). But remember this: according to Psalms 139:14 of the NKJV Bible (paraphrased by me), “you are fearfully and wonderfully made” by a God who loves you.
You are a unique one-of-a-kind design, an original (not a copy) individual with creative brilliance waiting to meet a need in this world. I’ve always known I was different, even as a child growing up. Very rarely am I discouraged about my uniqueness because I decided to embrace this fact as I grew up facing difficulties and challenges in school.
I encourage you to embrace your uniqueness, because it is one of the hidden jewels in which your purpose is embedded. What are your strengths? Celebrate them! What are your quirks? Study them. Let your passions set your soul ablaze. Your purpose is intricately intertwined with who you are—so embrace it fully.
Listening to the Whispers of Your Heart
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life and stressing about the cares of the world, it’s often difficult to hear the whispers of our hearts. But they are there, gently nudging us towards our true calling. For example, often when I was working on a job, I found myself at some point getting bored after the “newness” of the adventure had worn off and I’d find myself daydreaming about speaking to hundreds of Women at an event. I was full of joy and inspiring moments as I spoke with fervor and urgency conveying to those Women just how important their dreams and goals were and how they were meant to DREAM BIG and not play small on the stage of Life. WHEW! I still get moved just thinking about it. My natural gift of encouragement and exhortation oozes out of me. And every time my heart whispers to me “Trinitia, you were made for this.”
Take a moment to pause, reflect, and listen carefully. What are the desires that resonate deeply within you? What brings you unspeakable joy and fills your spirit with excitement? It is in the whispers of your heart that hidden jewels of your purpose lie, patiently waiting for you to discover and cultivate them.
Cultivating Awareness and Mindfulness
Finding your purpose in life requires a deep sense of self-awareness. It takes some time to engage in practices that allow you to connect with your heart and your mind. Meditate, journal, take notes, or spend time in nature—whatever helps you quiet the hustle and bustle to listen to the wisdom within.
Mindfulness helps you to become aware or conscious of things in your life as you self-reflect. It also opens doors to new thoughts and perspectives that enable you to uncover the passions and callings that may be hidden within you.
Embracing Challenges as Opportunities
The journey to find our purpose is not without its share of challenges. However, through this adversity, you can grow and often uncover your true potential. In seeking to find my purpose, I often asked myself, “What is it that I can do and take the good, bad, and really ugly and still keep doing it?” This let me know that even in the hard times and the struggle I still was willing to pursue that passionate desire. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Each obstacle will provide a valuable lesson and shape the path towards fulfilling your purpose. Embrace resilience and perseverance, determination, and unwavering belief in yourself. Remember diamonds go through a difficult process to be unearthed, but they come out as one of the rarest and most beautiful jewels that we absolutely love and adore!
Finding Meaning in Service to Others
One of the most profound and fulfilling ways to find purpose in your life is by serving others. By making a positive impact on the lives of those around you, you not only bring joy and fulfillment to their existence but also stoke the flame of purpose within yourself. My church family has a weekly mantra that we say when we present our tithes and offering for collection. In a unified voice we all declare “I am blessed to be a blessing to GOD, the church, and my neighbor.” (Check out the great things we are doing here.) I am always moved as I reflect on the blessed opportunity that I have to share in our giving practice as we seek to be a blessing to our community and others. Whether it’s volunteering, mentoring, or simply extending a helping hand, the act of selfless service connects you to a higher purpose—an interconnected web of compassion and empathy.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS:
As I wrap up this article, I pray that you feel inspired, motivated, and encouraged to dig deeper in search of your own quest for purpose. Remember, you may bump into some obstacles on your journey, and there will be moments of doubt and uncertainty. You may be comfortable where you’re at but like me, you will find yourself unfilled and often daydreaming about what you really want to be doing. Trust in the process, believe in your potential, and have faith that your purpose is waiting to be discovered. One of my favorite biblical scriptures of all time can be found in Proverbs 3:5-6, (NKJV Bible), says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Remember that you, my friend, are fearfully and wonderfully made! You possess within you a unique and extraordinary gift that only you can present to this world. Embrace your uniqueness, listen to the whispers of your heart, cultivate awareness and mindfulness, and view challenges as opportunities for growth. Lastly, let love and service guide you towards the fulfillment of your purpose.
Your purpose awaits because this world needs what you have to offer! Go forth, embrace the extraordinary, and make it happen!
